In the world of challenger banks, where disruption is the name of the game, Ribbon decided to go further by insisting that sustainability be part of the brand’s value proposition. Our agency was invited to help Ribbon break through conventional fintech narratives with its newly set bottom line—people, planet and profit. With Ribbon, we learned firsthand how to weave sustainable design principles into every facet of branding.

We set out on a different kind of creative journey. Instead of just developing striking visuals, we had to think about how to make the invisible, well, visible. Deploying our Sustainable Design Lens (SDL) philosophy, we reimagined the entire brand landscape. Intervening through multiple elements, we stacked

suggestions of environmental responsibility through the Ribbon customer’s experience. We integrated a carbon meter into the Ribbon app so users could track their carbon footprint; we built tools within the app for them to offset said footprint and crafted their bank cards from recycled plastic.

What truly set this project apart was the freedom to experiment and innovate. We discovered that sustainability could be embedded in design without sacrificing aesthetics or functionality. For instance, knowing that Ribbon aspired to be carbon neutral, we stripped down physical branding to the essentials. Minimalist, yet consequential, we chose carbon-neutral paper and recycled components to tell a story of mindful production and the brand’s values to its customers.

The process was as educational as it was exciting. We learned that sustainable design is not a secondary concern—it is a core principle that informs every decision. It’s about creating systems where environmental impact is measured, managed, and ultimately reduced. And for Ribbon, that meant offering not just a financial product, but a tool that empowered users to understand and mitigate their environmental impact.

This experience has reshaped the way we approach every branding project. By proving that sustainability and innovation can go hand in hand, we’ve established a new benchmark—a model for brands looking to make a genuine difference. And in a rapidly evolving financial landscape, that’s a story worth telling.
