In the era of challenger banks and neobanks, Ribbon wanted to push the envelope even further by operating from a planet, people, profit (PPP) bottom line while being net-zero. This project was ideally suited for Turntable’s skill sets. We had carte blanche to apply our sustainable design lens to the project.

We worked closely with the founders to construct the company’s DNA and integrate it into every facet of the brand. We wanted to ensure that the brand’s promise was relatable and tangible, something both stakeholders and customers would be behind. With a conviction that working in unison is the only way to bring about change, ‘Grow Together’ emerged as the brand’s purpose.

Colour System

Blue and green, colours associated with trust and growth, are widely used in banking and finance. To distinguish Ribbon, we decided to use hues that mix blue and green, colours that also connect the planet’s green cover and waters. To layer the emotion of the brand, we introduced a range of deep to light blues and purples, which are  specifically used for business and premium accounts. With orange tonal accents and robust neutrals, we established a brand palette of 21 colours. This hardworking palette gives the brand reliability, versatility, and vibrance.

Low-carbon stationery

We kept the brand’s stationery to a minimum, producing only what was essential and digitising the rest. Physical stationery was made using a carbon-neutral paper of 100% recycled fibre and printed on a carbon-neutral machine.

The Ribbon effect

The Ribbon card is made from 95% recycled PVC and can be sent back to the company for further recycling. Designed to make a difference – customers can track their carbon footprint based on their spending patterns and choose to offset it through a range of carbon-neutral projects.

We’ve incorporated a ribbon-like graphical element throughout the brand’s communication to emphasise that every small effort counts and progress requires continuous collaboration. Apart from acting as an extension of the name, it encapsulates a moment in time when the brand touches the lives of its customers.

App Design & Digital Experience

A super app or multi-service tech platform is a mobile or web application that combines multiple services into one platform. We helped Ribbon conceptualise and design their super app in a manner that gives customers complete financial visibility and allows them to personalise their experience. With that in mind, our goal was to seamlessly integrate a multi-platform experience into one cohesive user experience while offering hyper-personalisation, making real time analytics accessible and bringing carbon-footprinting into the conversation.
